Research interests focus on the preformulation of pharmaceutical and cosmetic molecules, whose physical and technological characteristics are improved through the interaction with suitable excipients/technological adjuvants. The modification of the physical state of biomolecules, obtained through technologies such as freeze drying and spray drying, are investigated using solubility and dissolution studies, X-ray powder diffraction analysis (XRPD), thermal analysis (DSC and TGA), ultraviolet (UV-Vis) and infrared spectroscopy (FTIR-ATR), granulometric analysis (PSD), optical microscopy and scanning electronic microscopy (SEM). Innovative formulations for the localized treatment of cutaneous affections are designed based on in-vitro permeation studies through biomimetic membranes. Topical extemporaneous preparations, characterized by greater physical and microbiological stability and longer shelf life than conventional dosage forms, are developed by the spray drying process. Spray dried formulations are easier to handle, and their logistics (storage and transport) are less demanding and cheaper than conventional ones.
